Upgrading your service from single-phase to three-phase

Apex Services can upgrade your existing single-phase service to a three-phase service, whether you have an aerial or underground service. We will supply and install the new cables, source the new energy meter(s) you will need from your Energy Supply Authority, and carry out any necessary upgrades to your switchboard. If you are not ready for a three-phase service but are planning to upgrade in the future, we can upgrade your service mains and consumer mains to three-phase and leave a single-phase service connected.

What's the difference between single-phase and three-phase services?

A single-phase service has two cables; a three-phase service has four. This allows you to run both single-phase equipment at 230V and three-phase equipment, such as large air-conditioners, lathes and saunas at 400V.

What's involved in upgrading to three-phase?

If you have a single-phase supply, your service mains and consumer's mains will consist of only two cables. Also, your energy meter will only meter a single phase. In order to upgrade, both your service mains and consumer's mains will need to be replaced. You will need to have a new three-phase energy meter installed, and you will need some alterations made to your switchboard.
